Astroberguedà: A New Dawn in Astronomy Enthusiasm
In the serene landscapes of Berguedà, a new community is forming, uniting diverse individuals with a common passion: the cosmos. Astroberguedà, the newly formed astronomical association, has officially launched its activities, bringing together enthusiasts of all ages to explore the universe's wonders.
The Birth of Astroberguedà
An Enthusiast's Initiative
Astroberguedà was conceived from informal meetings and administrative efforts by a group of astronomy aficionados. After months of preparation, the association now legally embodies a space for observation, learning, and dissemination. The members convene monthly at the Ateneu d’Olvan, with ambitious plans for stargazing sessions, expert talks, children's workshops, and excursions. Marc Rafart, one of the key figures, recalls how it began in December 2021 in Avià. Through word of mouth, the group has grown to over 30 members, with a WhatsApp group that includes around fifty engaged individuals.
Community Support and Growth
The association found a supportive base in Olvan, where the local Ateneu serves as their monthly meeting point. Here, the community has fostered an encouraging relationship with local governance, which has been supportive from the outset. This welcoming environment has been vital in nurturing the group's development and outreach efforts.
Connecting Through Astronomy
Library Roots
A significant influence on Astroberguedà's formation was the science group associated with the Gironella Library. This group has hosted regular astronomy events that have been well-received by the public. Lluïsa Herreras, a significant coordinator, notes the enthusiasm these events garnered, often leading to participants joining both the library events and the Astroberguedà gatherings. The cross-pollination between these groups enriches both communities, offering a diverse array of activities for members.
Diverse Membership
Astroberguedà prides itself on a diverse membership, encompassing various backgrounds and ages. “There are members with formal astronomy training as well as those simply eager to learn,” Rafart explains. The group includes educators in science and technology who recognize astronomy's increasing appeal among youth. Herreras highlights this interest through steady demand for astronomical topics in high school research projects, stressing the importance of associations like Astroberguedà in fostering critical thinking and encouraging future academic pursuits in astronomy.
Future Endeavors and Outreach
Inclusive Involvement
The association is open to all who are interested in participating or staying informed about its activities. Prospective members or those curious about upcoming events can reach Astroberguedà via their email at astrobergueda@gmail.com or follow them on Instagram at @astrobergueda.
The endeavors of Astroberguedà signal a promising horizon for community engagement with astronomy in Berguedà. By integrating educational activities and community support, they are paving the way for a more informed and connected group of stargazers and learners.
